This beautiful full-size violin bears the authentic label and brand of E. Martin in Sachsen, Germany.
Even though it is over 100 years old, I believe that it is as close to a new E. Martin violin as you’re ever going to find. I really like E. Martin fiddles, and I sold one earlier on Fiddle Hangout to a very happy buyer. This is the nicest E. Martin fiddle I have ever found.
This vintage violin has a rich focused tone with plenty of volume across all four strings. When you sink your bow into the G-string you get a deeply-satisfying, warm, and resonate response, and the E-string sings with a full, clear, and focused soprano voice. There are no weaknesses in any of the strings, and the sound is clean and full all the way up the neck. It is neither overly dark nor overly bright, but has a good balanced tone.
E-mail me if you'd like a sound sample, and let me know what styles of music you'd like to hear.
This vintage violin is perfect for a fiddle player who plays several different styles of music, from old-timey to bluegrass to Texas-style and even classical.
The violin is in excellent condition. There are no cracks or repaired cracks in the body or pegbox. The interior is very clean. The bridge, nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece are all set-up to proper specifications. The varnish is original, and shows some nicks, scratches, and small areas of touch-up.
The bridge is cut slightly flatter than a classical bridge cut, and the action is low and comfortable. It is fitted with a brand-new set of D'Addario Pro-Arté Strings.
This violin is ready to jam!
The tone woods are outstanding. The top is made from spruce with a very narrow grain, and the back, neck, and ribs are made from maple with beautiful figure and flame. The one-piece back is lovely! The amber brown varnish is transparent, and was carefully and artistically applied over a golden ground. It has not been polished.
This violin was originally sold by the C. Bruno & Son Company, and is featured in their 1907 catalog as "Highly Polished-Artistic Work-Parisian Finish" and "The genuine have monogram E. M. stamped on back." This violin is one of the highest grades offered under the “E. Martin” brand, and is described in the catalog as “Number 1945, Stradiuarius Model, Amber, Light Brown, Back in One Piece, Finer."
This violin was built on a Stradivarius model, and the arching and edges, and corners are excellent. The length of the back is 360mm. All four corners all have blocks and carefully cut linings. The workmanship is clean and precise both inside and out. The scroll and peg-box are well-carved and the f-holes are crisp and cleanly cut.
This violin will provide a lifetime of playing enjoyment.
Please study the pictures closely as they are an essential part of the description. Please ask me any questions. I can send you additional pictures if you would like. I have included detailed un-retouched pictures and described it as best that I can.
The violin will be carefully packed for shipping. It will be shipped in an old case of no commercial value, but I can include a brand new Toshira Deluxe dart-shaped suspension case from Shar music for $60 extra.
