For Sale: Old German Joh. Bapt. Schweitzer copy violin - $3,000 USD

This is an old German Schweitzer copy violin made in Markneukirchen in the early 20th century. It is in excellent condition. You may notice a small patch in the upper treble top bout, a piece that was inserted by the makers to replace what was most likely a knot in the wood. This is a cosmetic repair and an original feature of the instrument, a bit of a beauty mark—some makers leave the knots, some replace with a patch. The back bears an engraved image beneath the button, pictured above. There is a scribe line down the middle of the back to give the appearance of a two-piece back, but it’s actually a slab-cut one-piece back. The wood has a very attractive figure and the arching is full, giving it a warm and rich tone. It has a great response and a powerful but not harsh sound. It has been professionally revoiced and set up by Maxham Violins. Just recently it was played by some excellent Celtic Fiddlers at an international Celtic Music Convention just outside Washington, DC. It will be shipped in a GEWA Aspirante shaped case unless a different model is desired. Bows are also available upon request.
