This has been one of my main fiddles for a number of years - I played it predominantly for several years because of its great tone. It is a well-made violin that has seen some use and shows some wear. It has quality construction inside and out with a nicely flamed 1-piece back, fluted f-holes, and a quality varnish. The pegs, bridge, soundpost, are fairly new - the Helicore strings probably have about 2 months of play on them. There is no label in the violin but I am fairly certain it is German from the 1920's or 30's.
Condition: There is a well-repaired long crack that runs the length of the top plate of the violin right through the soundpost area. When I first got the violin I took it apart and inlaid a soundpost patch and cleated the rest of the crack- the repair is very solid and I guarantee there will be no issues from this repair. There is some varnish wear on the upper ribs, the lower back, and some dings and scrapes. Overall, the fiddle is in great playing condition.
If you are looking for a bassy, hollow-sounding fiddle, this is not it. The tone is clear, warm, and fairly powerful - one of the best sounding violins I have played. Suitable for all styles of music. Glad to answer any questions. Comes with an old hard case.
