This is a fine instrument made by Virginia’s finest maker, Daniel O. Smith. This one was made using wood that had belonged to an aspiring violin maker in Northern Virginia who had amassed a nice stash of wood in the 1970s. Most of his wood was imported from Germany, and the quality is very high.
The violin is numbered 70 from 2020. It comes with custom-made blood wood fittings with sterling silver accents. It is a pleasure to play and is ready for a serious player who wants a lifelong companion that can handle any genre. Owners of Smith violins have said that they couldn’t find anything that could compare under $25,000, and they’re played by musicians of all kinds, from devoted amateurs to concertizing professionals.
