This is 26 year-old violin was made by C. A. Gotz Jr. firm in Germany in 1998, and bears the firms original label. The Gotz firm has been making fine violins since 1884.
This violin sings with a bright colorful tone on all strings. It has a warm resonant voice on the lower strings, and a smooth soprano voice on the higher strings. It has plenty of volume for band and ensemble playing.
The tone woods are beautiful. The two-piece top is made from spruce with a fine grain across the top that widens slightly towards the flanks. The back, neck, and ribs are made from maple with narrow figure and flame. The Cremona orange varnish is highly transparent, and was carefully applied over a golden ground. It is not an artificially antiqued violin, and there is very little wear to the varnish. It has a few nicks and bumps, but otherwise is in almost new condition (see pictures).
There are no cracks in the top, back, ribs, or pegbox. There is virtually no wear on the corners, edges, or inside the treble C-bout. All 4 corners are blocked.
The violin has been professionally fitted with a new bridge. The bridge, nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece are all set-up to proper proper playing specifications. The fingerboard and pegs are high-quality ebony. The tailpiece is a Wittner Ultra Composite with 4 fine-tuners.
I will install a chinrest before shipping.
This violin was built on a Stradivarius model, and the arching, edges, and corners are precisely made. The length of the back is 357mm. The workmanship is clean and precise both inside and out. The scroll and peg-box are finely-carved. The purfling is expertly inlaid.
This violin is set-up and ready to play.
