This delightful Stainer copy was probably constructed in Germany around the mid-1920s, and bears the classic all-caps stamp on the back, below the button, and on the inside, visible through the bass f-hole. The table is a very beautiful, dark-varnished medium to narrow grained spruce, and the two-piece back is a gorgeously flamed maple. It has newly custom-fitted ebony pegs, a new ebony chin rest, and an ebony tailpiece with four (4) fine tuners to facilitate tuning and optimize it’s dark, woody tone. The soundpost was repositioned and the bridge refit to maximize the violin's natural tonality. It sports new D'Addario Zyex strings for a strong, warm, and stable tone. Measurements: Total length: 23 3/4”; Back: 13 7/8”; Upper bout: 6 1/2”; Lower Bout: 8”. This is the third (or fourth?) Stainer I have been fortunate to have in my hands, and it possesses the characteristically high-arched soundboard and back, affording it a large internal space to create a deeper, more resonant tone than other violins. It also produces easily accessible harmonics with a lighter touch. The previous owner said this violin was discovered in his late grandfather’s attic, and had not seen the light of day for some 60+ years. Consequently, each day and hour this fiddle is played, it reveals more and more of its voice, and has many long-dormant stories to tell. I have also found the best of them to have a wonderful voice for traditional musical genres, from old-time and bluegrass to country and western swing. And, they generally feel good and are fun to play. This one is no exception, and will not disappoint. This sale does not include a case, but will be packed well for safe delivery.
