Gianna’s “Kentucky” model fiddle. $975 shipped.
See "more info" for an imgur gallery
A while ago we put out a limited edition “Kentucky” model violin / fiddle. Our attention was – and remains – elsewhere, but we have a couple of these left over. These are of Chinese manufacture of excellent wood, with varnishing by the Weaver shop in Maryland. The response is fast and even, tone is nicely balanced from bass to treble and is nicely neutral. Unlike most trade instruments, the lower end has the broad “a bassa” fullness and warmth. The harmonics stack up very nicely. A pleasure to play.
Pattern: Stradivari pattern, with neutral longitudinal arching, gentle and fairly flat cross arching
Top: Medium-grained 2-piece spruce
Back: Two-piece broad descending flame – very very pretty, ebony button reinforcement
Neck: Well figured, nicely hand carved scroll
Varnish: Thin, hand-laid reddish-amber spirit varnish, medium antiqued, from House of Weaver
Bridge: Despiau, cut here, contest fiddle radius
Pegs: Ebony, fitted here
Chinrest: Ebony Guarneri style with chrome fittings
Tailpiece: Wittner Ultra composite with built in fine tuners
Strings: Helicore Heavy
Case, bow, accessories: Available; inquire

For Sale: Fiddle for Sale - $1,500 USD
This is an attractive and nicely made brown fiddle with a label inside: Allied Arts, made in Germany. It has a nicely marked back and a nice case.

For Sale: Lions Head Fiddle for Sale - $350 USD
A fiddle with a "Lions Head" in a plastic case. The fiddle seems to be in pretty good condition. These fiddles are not uncommon (I have one from my great grandfather) but are interesting and some players might pay a little extra. I think they were made around the turn of the century, maybe a little earlier. I would guess $250-$350.
It was probably made in Germany in the late 19th century. The "make" would be unknown since we don't know who made it exactly. Sometimes the make is listed as a "copy of ...", but I'm not expert enough to say. "unknown" is perfectly acceptable in the violin world!

For Sale: Guarneri Del Gesu Red Violin Copy - $850 USD
Guarneri Del Gesu 4/4 violin copy. Handmade. Tightly grained spruce top. Hill style Boxwood fittings. Extremely flamed maple 1 piece back, sides & neck/scroll. Absolutely beautiful reddish brown varnish. This thing sounds great!! Very loud when you dig in. Had my ears ringing!! Comes with a deluxe rectangular case with shoulder rest and 2 octagonal bows. Rosin also included. Photos don't do it justice. Has more of a red tint than shows here. I bought it to learn but, I play guitar and decided not to pursue violin. I wanted to start with a pro level instrument and this is what I bought. Wish I could keep it just to admire it but, has to go.....

For Sale: Hopf Marking - $500 USD
I bought this fiddle approx. 35 yrs ago but never learned to play. It has been in the case all these yrs and was taken out once for a professional fiddle player to tune and played it. It has the HOPF marking on back, could not find any markings inside, does not have the corner blocks, full size, has a few scratches, but other wise in very good condition. Cannot see any cracks or repairs. Comes with old black solid wood case with green felt inside.

For Sale: Gregory Krone Fiddle 2005 with LR Baggs Pickup and JonPaul silver fusion bow - $2,200 USD
This is a fantastic American made fiddle by Gregory Krone in 2005. It has a super sweet, open and incredibly balanced tone. I really would love to hang on to this instrument, but I've decided to take the plunge and have a 5 string built. So I'm clearing house to fund the new investment. This is a gorgeous instrument, lots of bold flaming, fluted F holes, and master carved scroll. It's in excellent condition, needs nothing, and is gig ready with a pro installed LR Baggs pickup/carpenter Jack. Helicore mediums, Kaplan vivo E string, wittner tailpiece. Will include a JonPaul Silver mounted FUSION Bow as well. This is a carbon fiber core wrapped in wood for a hybrid of playability and tone. It's a truly great bow. Will ship in basic shaped foam case that is like new.

For Sale: Violin for sale - $600 USD
I bought this violin a number of years ago and it was just ok. Then I had an area luthier completely redo it. He regraded the top, redid the bass bar, refit the pegs, refitted the bridge, and made it sound fantastic. I am only selling it because I have 2 other violins, one a custom design, the other a family heirloom, so this one is the odd one out. quality of tone/ overall sound is fairly equal among the 3.
Carved in the back of the scroll is " conservatory Violin".(see picture) the inside label is illegible, but the luther opined that it is probably a German made , Strad style violin from the early 20th century or older. The body of the instrument has been "distressed" by the original builder, according to an area luthier, to make it look aged. It does. Perlon strings. Ebony fingerboard and chin rest. Rosewood pegs.
I am including a worn but very serviceable oblong hardshell plywood case with brown canvas cover. also included is a serviceable horsehair bow.
luthier Paul Newson, who built my mandolin and lion head fiddle- both works of art with wonderful sound- has this violin and id repairing a small seperation, and doing complete setup. will have it back this thursday, 3/30.

For Sale: Vintage E. Martin Amati Copy Full Size Price Reduced - $400 USD
Here is a full size E. Martin Copy of Amati which was made in Germany probably during the 1930's. It has the stamped E. Martin insignia on the button and upper back, and an authentic label. I picked it up at a good price and am selling this pretty much as I found it with an old hard case and a Glasser bow. The setup is not professional but it is very adequate (has an Ultra De Jaques self-fitting bridge, fine-tuner, tailpiece, ebony chinrest, and rosewood tuning pegs).
There is a well-repaired crack on the right lower bout (beneath the lower right f-hole eye). Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. The irregular figure of the maple back is striking. Varnish in excellent condition.
The violin plays and responds leasily and has a smooth, warm tone. I would say the tone is near the middle of the dark/bright spectrum but leaning towards the bright side. It is strung with Tonica strings with plenty of life left in them but I think Helicores might be optimal for this fiddle.
The case has seen better days. This is a great price on a vintage European violin.

For Sale: Antique 1920s Stainer Violin with Fine Dark Fiddle Tone - $750 USD
This delightful Stainer copy was probably constructed in Germany around the mid-1920s, and bears the classic all-caps stamp on the back, below the button, and on the inside, visible through the bass f-hole.
The table is a very beautiful, dark-varnished medium to narrow grained spruce, and the two-piece back is a gorgeously flamed maple. It has newly custom-fitted ebony pegs, a new ebony chin rest, and an ebony tailpiece with four (4) fine tuners to facilitate tuning and optimize it’s dark, woody tone. The soundpost was repositioned and the bridge refit to maximize the violin's natural tonality. It sports new D'Addario Zyex strings for a strong, warm, and stable tone.
Measurements: Total length: 23 3/4”; Back: 13 7/8”; Upper bout: 6 1/2”; Lower Bout: 8”.
This is the third (or fourth?) Stainer I have been fortunate to have in my hands, and it possesses the characteristically high-arched soundboard and back, affording it a large internal space to create a deeper, more resonant tone than other violins. It also produces easily accessible harmonics with a lighter touch.
The previous owner said this violin was discovered in his late grandfather’s attic, and had not seen the light of day for some 60+ years. Consequently, each day and hour this fiddle is played, it reveals more and more of its voice, and has many long-dormant stories to tell.
I have also found the best of them to have a wonderful voice for traditional musical genres, from old-time and bluegrass to country and western swing. And, they generally feel good and are fun to play. This one is no exception, and will not disappoint.
This sale does not include a case, but will be packed well for safe delivery.
