This violin was hand-carved by luthier D. M. Riley in Joplin, Missouri in August of 1979. It plays beautifully -- lower and higher notes are rich and bright and clear. This is a very loud and responsive fiddle, and well set up. The workmanship on this fiddle is excellent, the scroll is neat, and the purfling is inlaid very precisely.
The neck is very much on the small side, but the fingerboard is not too narrow.
It has a three piece Spruce top, and a two piece Mahogany back, and Mahogany sides. There is a slight seam separation in the top, between the bass side and the center pieces of the top, about an inch and a half long, under the edge of the fingerboard extension. It was there when I bought the fiddle three years ago, and is stable.
This is a professional level fiddle, and I'm only selling because I have another fiddle, and I want to buy a concertina.....
This fiddle comes from a non smoking, pet free home.
