This beautiful full-size violin bears the authentic label and brand of E. Martin in Sachsen, Germany. This vintage violin has a rich focused tone with plenty of volume across all four strings. When you sink your bow into the G-string you get a deeply-satisfying, warm, and resonate response, and the E-string sings with a full, clear, and focused soprano voice. There are no weaknesses in any of the strings, and the sound is clean and full all the way up the neck. This vintage violin is perfect for a fiddle player who plays several different styles of music, from old-timey to bluegrass to Texas-style and even classical. If you'd like a sound sample, email me what kind of music you like to play. The violin is in excellent condition. There is one small closed and glued crack near the lower treble corner on the top, but that is all. There are no other cracks or repaired cracks in the body or pegbox. The interior is very clean. The bridge, nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece are all set-up to proper specifications. The varnish is original, and shows some nicks, scratches, and small areas of touch-up. It is fitted with a new Wittner Ultra-Composite Tailpiece with 4 fine tuners for easy precise tuning. The action is low and comfortable. It is fitted with a brand-new set of John Pearce Perlon Violin Strings. These are a great “neutral” string much like Dominants. The tone woods are outstanding. The top is made from spruce with a very narrow grain, and the back, neck, and ribs are made from maple with beautiful figure and flame. The one-piece back is lovely! The amber brown varnish is transparent with a lovely fine craquleur, and was carefully and artistically applied over a golden ground. This violin was originally sold by the C. Bruno & Son Company, and is featured in their 1907 catalog as "Highly Polished-Artistic Work-Parisian Finish" and "The genuine have monogram E. M. stamped on back." This violin is one of the highest grades offered under the “E. Martin” brand, and is described in the catalog as “Number 1945, Stradiuarius Model, Amber, Light Brown, Back in One Piece, Finer." At $45, it was a moderately expensive violin in 1907. Although this is a German violin, the "Parisian Finish" can be seen in the French-like squared-off corners and the fine black highlighting around the scroll and peg box chamfers and the rib joins in the corners. It looks very sharp! Also, the pegs are fine rosewood as was commonly used by French violin makers. This violin was built on a Stradivarius model, and the arching and edges, and corners are excellent. The length of the back is 357mm. All four corners all have blocks and carefully cut linings. The workmanship is clean and precise both inside and out. The scroll and peg-box are well-carved and the f-holes are expertly cut. This violin will provide a lifetime of playing enjoyment. Please study the pictures closely as they are an essential part of the description. Please ask me any questions. I can send you additional pictures if you would like. I have included detailed un-retouched pictures and described it as best that I can. The violin will be carefully packed for shipping. It will be shipped in an old case of no commercial value, but I can ship in a brand new Toshira™ Deluxe TC100 Violin Case from Shar music for $60 extra. These cases currently retail for $90.
