Husband was professional classical symphony violinist and fiddle player. When he was a youngster in the mid- 1950’s studying with John Coppin of the LA Phil, Albert Masterman was the luthier who rehaired their bows. Many years later he ran across one of Mr. Masterman’s violins and traded a fine collection of bows for it. He tried many times to acquire a history of Mr. Masterson and his works, but never succeeded. Described as a fine American violin in Guarneri style, with mixed Italian, French, and German influence, labeled “Made by A. Masterman, Los Angeles, Calif. 1937”. Made of two pieces beautifully flamed maple back, rib, neck, and evenly grained spruce top, artistically applied brown varnish. Has very few scratches, is in very good condition. It produces a rich, even, and powerful sound. Measurements: HBL 355mm HB. 168 mm MB 112 mm LB 203mm Recent written appraisal from Antonio Strad Violin Shop in San Antonio. Double case included. Call or text to make arrangements to see and play. 830-591-4823.

My husband Dick Walker was a professional player and during the 1980’s he would have his bows rehaired by Mr. Lester Barton of Arlington, CA. Mr. Barton was a very kind man, a Mormon, was retired, and was listed in Henley’s Encyclopedia of Violin and Bow Makers. He was dying of cancer and selling his things to help provide for his wife. He wrote a note inside the violin describing the wood he used to make this instrument and the difficulty he had in “working it”. The note is on the inside of the back near the neck and is difficult to see. Recent appraisal from Antonio Strad Violin Shop in San Antonio. Described as follows: An American violin made by Lester Bardin. Made of two pieces of beautifully flamed maple back, rib, neck, with evenly grained spruce top. Evenly applied reddish brown varnish. Good condition. In old case for temporary storage. Measurements: HBL 354mm HB 167mm MB 111mm LB 209mm Call to arrange time to meet and see/play instrument. 830-591-5823.

I am selling this violin for a friend of mine who is retired and wants it to be in the hands of someone who is a player and will use it. It is very rare that a Silakowski 5-string violin comes up for sale on the market. Mr. Silakowski has a long waiting list for custom orders and the cost of his violins keeps getting higher. This violin has a beautiful, deep, mellow tone. The gentleman who owns it has always used it in church and as a solo instrument. It is in 100% perfect condition with no repairs. Instruments like this one can be seen on YouTube at 5-string Fiddle Hunt, Part 1 and Part 2 by Casey Driessen and also at Brittany'sfiddle styles workshop. There are also many other professional country players using Silakowski fiddles. Mr. John Silakowski's 5-string fiddles sell at an average of $12,000.00 if you can find one. The gentleman who owns this one is offering it at a special cash price of $9,300.00. It is very well worth it. It will be a good violin to use and play and a great investment. It comes with a useable case and no bow. The buyer must pay cost of shipping and insurance depending on your address. Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas!

Is a Guarneri copy with a maple back, spruce top, and amber coloring all throughout featuring a superieur despiau (France) bridge. Bought over 8 years ago from Winston Salem Violins Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC. Sounds amazing and in excellent condition. Haven't touched it in a very long time so strings and hairs on bow are in need of changing but other than that top-notch. Also comes with an extra bow I bought for very cheap and the case is not the original, just a cheap MAX case. Feel free to contact me for more info/with any questions you might have.

For Sale: Frank Daniels 5 String Fiddle - $4,850 USD

I am offering for sale my Daniels 5 string. Frank Daniels is a well-known second generation fiddle maker in Meridian, Idaho whose fiddles have won numerous awards. See below from his Web site:“In 1999 at the Violin Makers Association of Arizona, Intl. annual competition, Frank had the prestigious honor of his 34th instrument, a steel-string violin, being judged best in tone (by playing and listening judges) out of over 80 gut-string and steel-string violins. Over the years, Frank has won numerous tone awards for his instruments – in 1997, 1999, 2005 and 2006 competitions Frank’s 11th, 34th, 113th and 120th steel-string fiddles placed first in tone. In 1998 his 23rd violin placed 2nd in tone in the gut-string category. At the October 2009 competition his 174th violin placed 3rd in tone in the first round and in October 2010 Frank’s 180th violin tied for 4th in tone in the first round and 5th in tone after the third round. In 2012, his 193rd fiddle tied for 4th in tone in the first round. In 1999 and 2000 his large violas placed first in tone and in 2005 his 7th viola placed 3rd in tone and in workmanship.” This fiddle is his #60, finished in February 2001. The one-piece back and the sides are of quilted maple, and the top is spruce, of course, though not sure of the variety. This fiddle has been played by B.J. Cherryholmes and by Pat White (US Navy Bluegrass Band), both of whom liked it. B.J. has played Daniels fiddles quite a lot, and Pat White got himself one after trying this one. I would welcome you to get in touch with Frank Daniels and ask him what he can tell you. I am the third owner. I bought this fiddle in March 2017 to complement my Arthur Conner 5 string, and it’s a great fiddle. I had my luthier replace the Wittner tailpiece, the tuning pegs, chin rest, and end pin with Paduak, a tropical hardwood. The Paduak fittings look great with the reddish-orange tone of the violin’s finish. I currently have a full set of Evah Pirazzi strings on the fiddle, including the low C. The strings are nearly new, not a lot of playing time on them. It plays extremely well, is very well balanced, and the tone is very pleasing, commensurate with the awards listed above. Not too bright, and not too dark. Frank’s 5 strings, if you want one made for you, start at $6,000. I’m offering this one for sale now, because I have to thin out the herd. I’ll include the original case, which is a bit tattered on the outside, but is a good quality 4/4 case. Please feel free to call or email with any questions. I am offering for sale my 4/4 “Pollastri” violin. This is a fine instrument with a clear, fine voice. Just beautiful. I purchased this violin from Jarek Powichrowski, owner of Princeton violins, in 2014. Jarek is a very talented violinist and luthier up in Princeton, NJ. His asking price for this violin was $4500. LOB is 361 mm. The two-piece back is of beautiful tiger maple oriented in a herringbone pattern, and the original finish is wonderful, with one small dime sized area worn through on the back. A very well executed repair is shown in the last photo. You can view Jarek’s demo video of this violin at: youtube.com/watch?v=4yzvjTe23ZM or simply go to youtube and search: “Violin Augustus Pollastri 1906”. There’s only one with that title. Since obtaining this violin, I had my luthier replace the ebony tuning pegs with geared Wittners. I currently have a set of Evah Pirazzi strings on the violin. I’m offering this violin, as well a as few others, because I have too many. I can offer a nearly new Core 4/4 case for an additional $95. Please feel free to call or email with any questions. I am offering for sale my 4/4 “Sgarbi” violin. This is a finely crafted instrument with a bold, bright voice. Commanding. I purchased this violin from Jarek Powichrowski, owner of Princeton violins, in 2014. Jarek is a very talented violinist and luthier up in Princeton, NJ. His asking price for this violin was $3500. LOB is 358 mm. The two-piece back is of beautiful tiger maple, and the original dry finish is wonderful. This violin has two professionally repaired, very stable cracks in the top. Here’s a great old fiddle, labeled “Joseph Guarnerius fecit Cremonae anno 1713”. It’s a great bluegrass or old time fiddle with a bold, sassy voice. I had my luthier install Wittner geared tuners on her, as well as carve a good bridge for it. He also tweaked the sound post so she’s at her best. It’ll give any banjo a run for its money. There are two very old, very stable repaired cracks in the spruce top, and the figured maple back has some dings and battle scars. Nothing major, just character for an old fiddle. I have a nearly new set of Evah Pirazzi strings on this fiddle. I can offer a nearly new Core 4/4 case for an additional $95. Please feel free to call or email with any questions. For Sale: Antique 4/4 Bluegrass or Old Time Fiddle 1901 - $785 USD

I am offering for sale a very cool find. This violin/fiddle was likely a one owner instrument, dated 1901 in the personal inscription inside the original case. This fiddle was played quite a bit in its day, and has likely been in the attic for decades before I came across it at an estate sale 3 years ago. I have replaced the original antique mechanical tuning pegs, chin rest, tailpiece and end pin with all Tetul (tropical hardwood) tuning pegs, tailpiece, end pin and Guarneri style chin rest. I have the original fittings if you want them. Label inside reads “Antonius Stradiuvarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1716”. Tiger maple sides and back, spruce top and ebony fingerboard. I had my luthier go over this instrument and professionally restore it to perfect playing condition, including a new custom shaped bridge, new gut tailpiece cord, and re-setting of the sound post. I currently have a set of Thomastik Vision medium gauge strings on the fiddle. I’ve played it along with several others I own over the past three years, and this fiddle has come alive! It has a bold voice that projects well and a smooth, gutsy tone on the double-stops. This fiddle has the sound and the character to take its rightful place in the hands of a bluegrass, old time, or country fiddler that wants to make a statement. It is that cool. I have re-awakened this instrument, and it will only continue to open up more from decades of sleeping in the attic. Comes with the original wooden ‘coffin’ case with the personal inscription dated 1901 when it was given by Walter Crow to his brother Morrison Crow. Priced at $785.00 I can provide a new, modern Core case for $95.00 CONTACT ME BY PHONE: Five four zero six five one six thousand or five four zero two three nine five three eight zero. === >>> 540-651-6000 or 540-239-5380
