If this fiddle could talk, it'd tell stories of all the miles it's traveled.
This well-loved French fiddle, stamped CHAPPUY A PARIS, has a gorgeous dark sound and mid-level projection, perfect for roots music and jazz. The instrument as it is currently set up is not well suited to orchestral playing.
Stamp has been verified as authentic by several shops - Chappuy is not a frequently copied maker, so there are very few repros/fakes.
Corners are blunted, and neck has an ugly old but very solid repair. Parts of the instrument were over-varnished when the neck repair was done. Body has several well-studded cracks.
A new fingerboard, bridge, and post have this thing sounding dandy.
Will consider trade for openback banjo of comparable quality (Wildwood/Fielding/Ome are especially interesting to me).
